What is Massage?
We all know that when we hurt ourselves, by instinct the very first thing that we do is rub the affected area better. We are ‘Massaging’ the area. We are soothing the nerve endings to reduce pain, we are increasing the blood circulation to bring warmth and essential healing nutrients to an area in need, we are increasing the lymphatic drainage to remove any damaging unwanted toxins, we are also calming and relaxing the area giving an instant feeling of well-being.
About Swedish massage
Swedish message concentrates deep into muscles and bones; it will help remove pain and stiffness and will help you to rejuvenate the entire body. Since Swedish massage provides relief to both mind and body at the same time you can get treatment and relief at a quicker period when compared with other massage therapies.
Swedish massage helps to alleviate the build up of stress and tension in the muscles from every day use. It uses massage techniques specifically aimed to relax your muscles as the main purposes are to increase oxygen flow to the muscles and to aid the body in the removal of built up toxins. Swedish massage tends to be a much deeper massage than the Aromatherapy so it is also suited to sports people. Even though the pressure caused by Swedish full body massage is deep it will not cause any pain and will only be soothing on your body.
We use soft relaxing background music to help draw the mind and body into a completely relaxed state.
The benefits of Swedish massage are many, they include:
- Aids weight loss
- Relieves aches and pains and help to tone the muscles
- Relaxation of tight muscles and helps with stiff joints
- Increases blood circulation
- Stimulates the lymphatic system to aid the removal of waste products in the body
- Improves skin colour/texture/elasticity and breaks down fatty tissue
- Stimulates and soothes nerve endings in the skin
- Softens and moisturises skin
- Helps stimulate metabolism naturally and improve general health
- Encourages a feeling of general relaxation and well being
What happens during a Swedish massage Treat?
We will complete a thorough medical history (if this is your first appointment) to assess your needs and establish any issues that might be inhibiting your health. This normally takes between 15-20 minutes. Once this is completed we are ready to start your treatment. The treatment itself is held in a warm, comfortable room where you will be asked to undress down to your underwear, and lie on the couch. You will be fully covered with towels throughout the massage, and only the parts of the body being massaged will be uncovered.
Aromatherapy oil will help to nourish your skin and aid massage movement. Massage may be given to any one part of the body at one time (back, head, neck and shoulders, hands, legs, feet), although a full body massage will benefit the entire body, giving maximum results for good health. After the massage follow up and after care advice is given. General lifestyle advice will also be given related to your individual needs, including some dietary advice and muscle stretching if appropriate.
